Wife Swap

I TIVO all episodes of Wife Swap and video the best ones, and tonight's swap was a gem, even though an Evangelical Republican wife was swapped for a butch husband instead of a femme wife. Thus the butch and the millionairre Republican man ended up together, and the Christian woman and the femme ended up sharing a house. No matter! It was still a workable swap.

The butch was described by the male overvoice as "the one who wears the pants" (this included: doing the hard yard work, wearing a short hairstyle, and being daddy to the femme's little girl). The first half of the show involves the families (each with a swapped spouse) behaving the same way as if the new person isn't there. Then the swapped wife or butch gets to take over. When the butch took over, hy had the kids stop making their beds, arranged a way-fun slumber party, and instead of setting out silver, pizza on paper plates was served. When it was the Rebublican woman's turn to take over, she also gave the BF couple's girl a fun day because she is a stay-at-home mom. So the girl had a "princess" day where she gets cooked for and gets to play with "Mom" with no cares in the world for either of them.

What I find so darn touching about all the Wife Swap episodes is that everybody learns something useful for their respective families. The gays learned to take time away from their busy working-class lives to give the girl a special day, and the Christian kids learned that it's okay to do art and express yourself...and, most importantly, that having a butch daddy is loads of fun :-)
